Thanks for your question. The FurBabyFeeder Sphere uses a motorized door mechanism to open and close the doors. While it's not silent, the sound is relatively soft and quieter than a typical kitchen appliance. That said, for sensitive or easily spooked pets, the first few uses might startle them a bit until they get used to the motion and sound.
